TIMBER TRADE JOURNAL NOTES THAT, IN EACH CASE, ACCOYA WAS USED DUE TO ITS “EASE OF USE, SUSTAINABLE CREDENTIALS, AESTHETIC APPEAL AND LONG-LASTING DURABILITY”.
Chemically modified woods have been gaining in popularity over recent years for a number of reasons, not least their attractiveness, versatility, and durability. If you’re wondering whether these engineered timbers are worth the investment, now is a great time to review how they’re capturing the popular imagination.
Accoya, a top-quality engineered material that Quercus is proud to offer to its customers, is amongst the most popular products in its category. This year, Accoya was the material of choice for three of the Architizer A+ award-winning architectural projects. These prestigious awards honour some of the world’s greatest new buildings, and the winners were picked from 5,000 entries – meaning competition was tough!
The three category winners this year included the Royal Arena in Denmark, City Hall Venlo in the Netherlands, and the Tintra Footbridge in Norway. Timber Trade Journal notes that, in each case, Accoya was used due to its “ease of use, sustainable credentials, aesthetic appeal and long-lasting durability”.
The Royal Arena in Copenhagen, which was completed in late 2016, saw its entire façade built with Accoya. This state of the art arena was built to host a number of international arts and sporting events, so it was crucial that the building itself looked impressive.
City Hall in Venlo was both the Jury Winner and Popular Choice Winner in the Institutional-Government & Municipal Buildings category. For this build, appropriate materials with green credentials were “of the upmost importance to the designers.” Hence, Accoya was used for the cladding, terraces, window frames, doors, and ceilings.
Lastly, the Tintra Footbridge in Vossevangen, which won the Popular Choice in the Transportation Infrastructure category. Here, Accoya was used for all the vertical cladding, primarily because of its durability and ease of maintenance – crucial factors in the bridge’s design.
As this year’s Architizer A+ Awards demonstrate, Accoya is a great choice for any number of applications – could it be a great choice for your next project?
