All about the FSC®

FOR OVER 20 YEARS, THEY HAVE WORKED IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO PROTECT AND ENSURE THE CARE OF FORESTS AND THE PEOPLE AND PLANTS THAT ARE SO DEPENDENT UPON THEM.

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is the international non-profit organisation at the heart of protecting the world’s forests. Their logo is instantly recognisable, but not too many people know exactly what they do day-to-day, so we thought we would take a look.

The FSC was set up in Canada in 1993, when a group of timber users, traders and representatives who were concerned with accelerating deforestation came together.

For over 20 years, they have worked in many different ways to protect and ensure the care of forests and the people and plants that are so dependent upon them.

The FSC put together this creative stop-frame animation video to show us just how many products come from the forest:

There are a set of ten principles that the FSC display on their website, which act as a set of commandments on how to carry out responsible forest management. These include: maintaining the ecosystem’s biodiversity, resources and landscapes and maintaining or enhancing forest worker’s rights at the same time.

For companies working in the timber industry, the FSC label provides a seal of assurance that wood, paper, and other forest products have been responsibly sourced from well-managed forests and other controlled sources.

Responsible forestry and wood sourcing is at the heart of what we do here at Quercus. We are committed to purchasing and supplying the best timber possible, not only for our customers, but for the environment too.

Because of this, we are FSC certified, meaning that when you buy timber from us you can have complete peace of mind that the wood you are purchasing has come from legal, well managed forests offering full chain of custody certification.
